Every Forest has a unique presence made signature by the harmonics of flora and fauna. Light filters through the marriage of deciduous and evergreens’ boughs forming a canopy where the rain makes its first contact before slowly dripping its way down to the soft, fertile forest floor beneath. Gentle slopes, plains and valleys give sharp way to rocky ravines and ridges, with all contours highlighted by means of bountiful tributaries. Each mushroom, plant, tree, fox, and frog place its meaningful note on the tapestry of its forests melody, only perfectly accompanied by resident song birds, as any other would sound out of tune once you know your forest’s song.
To know the forest, is to become its apprentice. This is what this presence is about, learning from the Forest. A primary deciduous forest nestled in the Northern part of the midwest (Minnesota) will be the setting for most of the content here. Forests from all over have shared their melody, and will also be captured here.
Foraging, wildlife observation and photography, tracking and distinguishing animal signs (fur, tracks, scat, sounds), herbalism, natural medicines from the forest, wild culinary, and bushcraft wield themselves as well-suited instruments of accompaniment to its song.
