Golden needle (Velvetfoot) Mushroom revealing its creamy undersides with no ring, and a coppery-brown, “bun” colored cap.
Growing from the bark of a decaying elm tree, the golden needle pushes its way through to emerge.
Also called “wild enoki”, here it is revealing its long steps when under light-anemic conditions, shows its resemblance to the cultivated version known as enoki, but in the wild it will have brown caps instead of the albino appearance of the long spindly ones found in stores.
Deadly look-alike, the deadly galerina (funeral bell), can kill an adult with just one mushroom. Usually has a ring on the stem, but not always. Always safest to cross check and do a spore print.
